THE DETAILS.

Our mission at GoDaddy was to allow customers on our ecommerce platform to sell anything, anywhere. That means providing access to sell their products and services on any major platform online, and in the real world.

Our team was focused on providing GoDaddy customers access to the unparalleled flexibility of WordPress combined with the selling power offered in WooCommerce.

We delivered a new onboarding experience that brought GoDaddy's brand into WordPress. We built an experience that inspires confidence in our customers that they will be provided the same quality and service they've come to expect in our other products.

On top of the guided onboarding experience we worked hard to create a dashboard landing page where people can discover their best path forward in creating a store that empowers them to thrive.

Cross-functional Partners.

I had the luxury of working with a 3rd party research team that helped do some of the heavy lifting while I provided direction.

In addition to the research team we worked with a combination of Product Managers and Engineers throughout the process to drive direction and feasibility.

END RESULT.

We spent a year expanding our foothold in WooCommerce on WordPress. Adding a unified dashboard and onboarding experience helped to cement GoDaddy’s presence in that space and drove retention rates and adoption of additional offerings within the platform by creating greater awareness and access to the company’s suite of products.

PAIN POINTS.

Two main pain points that were the catalyst for this new onboarding and dashboard were:

  1. Guidance when setting up my store so that I am ready to sell as fast as possible with the confidence that everything is set up correctly.

  2. After getting set up I need to know how to grow and manage my store. Whats next?

WHAT WE LEARNED.

Results.

The new dashboard and onboarding flows have opened doors for our customers by:

  • Proving a consistent experience when transitioning from GoDaddy’s main website to the more foreign WordPress environment.

  • Improving the seller experience by offering a better suite of tools to get the job done.

  • Improving the WordPress design language by adding more modern components and user flows.

Next Steps.

We intentionally built in better analytics so that we could continue to iterate. We intend to continue improving the dashboard experience by adding views of store analytics that will be available across our omni commerce ecosystem.

Final Takeaways.

Over the course of the year it became apparent that there was an opportunity for our team to create a more user friendly environment within WordPress for sellers that would make them more successful and more likely to become long term customers at GoDaddy.
